NASA Johnson Space Center

Tour the home of U.S. manned space flight. The official visitor center for the Johnson Space Center is Space Center Houston. 5.5 miles from the club. |
Golfing

That’s right! In Houston you can mix curling with Golf in April! Houston is home to hundreds of golf courses. There are 12 courses within 10 miles of the club including the world’s longest fully lit course (6777 Yards Long – Par 72), and there are nearly 100 courses within 30 miles! We are working on getting some deals on tee times, so check back for more information. |
Kemah Boardwalk

Check out the Kemah Boardwalk. A boardwalk on Galveston Bay with tons of waterfront restaurants featuring many different kinds of food. If the weather is nice (which is usually is in April) grab a seat at one of the restaurants with outdoor seating and watch sailboats come in and out of their marina. 12 miles from the club. |
Moody Gardens

Moody Gardens features a 10-story Rainforest Pyramid offering an incredible tropical environment, and is home to the largest bat exhibit in the Southwest. The IMAX 3D will keep you jumping out of your seat, and the experience is so real you’ll reach out to touch what seems to be inches away. Palm Beach offers a white sand beach with a blue lagoon and lots of fun for kids. The Discovery Pyramid features a host of interactive exhibits where visitors can learn about the wonders of science, and take a fascinating adventure ride in the IMAX Ridefilm Theater. Moody Gardens newest attraction, the Aquarium Pyramid, is the largest in the world and features 100,000 square feet of exhibit space showcasing the waters of the world. 32 miles from the club. |
Galveston Island

Located about 30 minutes from the curling club, Galveston Island (home to Galveston, TX) is a great place to escape to if you want to check out the beach! That’s right, curling and sun bating on the Gulf of Mexico. Does it get any better? Other attractions in Galveston include Moody Gardens (mentioned above), the Galveston Island Railroad Museum, Schlitterbahn Waterpark, the Strand downtown shopping district, and the Lone Star Flight Museum. Galveston is also home to several historic ships: the tall ship Elissa at the Texas Seaport Museum and USS Cavalla and USS Stewart, both berthed at Seawolf Park on nearby Pelican Island. Galveston is also home to many historic mansions (many of which survived the hurricane of 1900). Deep Sea Fishing

Houston and Galveston are hope to many fishing charters that can take you as far as 100 miles off the cost of Texas. There are many different types of fish to go after including tuna, kingfish, sailfish, red snapper, grouper, and even the occasional shark. There are many websites out there that offer day-long fishing charters and even overnight charters. |
Haak Winery

Texas wine? I must be dreaming right? Actually Texas has a number of wineries throughout the state. Haak Winery is a complete working winery, 4-acre vineyard, crush pad, bottling and corking equipment, fermentation tanks, 1800 sq. ft. cellar with wine barrels in Santa Fe, TX (just south of Houston). All visitors to the winery are offered free tastings and tours that run continuously. Gift shop, deli and picnic grounds. Winter Hours (November-April): M-Sat. 11:00 am-5:00 pm, and Sun. noon-5:00 pm. A taste of the Old World in Galveston County. 19 miles from the club. |
Battleship Texas State Historic Site

Take a tour of the Battleship Texas! Commissioned in 1914, the Battleship Texas is permanently docked in the San Jacinto Battlefield Park next to the Port of Houston (one of the busiest ports in the US). She is the last of the battleships that saw action in both WWI and WWII. She was decommissioned in 1948. It is both a National Historic Landmark and a National Mechanical Engineering Landmark. 21 miles from the club. |
Beer Can House

That’s right. A curler’s dream come true. A house entirely sided with beer cans! If you come here to curl, make sure you stop by this Houston landmark. You can find more information about the house here. 24 miles from the club. |
Gulf Greyhound Park

Check out greyhound racing action here every night at the Gulf Greyhound Park! But make sure you go on Thursday night if you get into town early! Thursday nights feature 50-cent draft beers, sodas, hot dogs, and popcorn, and $1 margaritas! Just make sure you can curl the next day! 13 miles from the club. |
